چکیده

In the framework of a project studying karst region Western Mecsek Mts in 2018–19, new paleokarst cavity containing abundant vertebrate remains was found near village Bükkösd, extending sparse Quaternary record region. Th e herpetofauna is represented by salamandrid, true frog, lacertid lizards and colubrid snakes, latter dominating material. poor mammal material shows that area inhabited insectivores, bats, mice, hamsters voles. show no signs long transport. composition total fauna suggests sunny, rocky hillside with scrub trees places immediate vicinity accumulation site. age charcoal recovered from fi ll (41–42 ka) late Pleistocene (MIS 3), this makes assemblage rst proven MIS 3 southern Hungary. re-evaluation paleokarstrelated fossil previously reported revealed further probably also age, Mélyvölgy Rock shelter. palaeoclimate reconstructed palaeoecological analysis faunas warmer than coeval sites northern Hungary, more closed (forested) vegetation mammoth steppes. refers to existence north-south thermal gradient Carpathian Basin at time. Geodynamics of SW-Pannonian inselbergs (Mecsek and Villány Mts, SW Hungary): Inferences from a complex structural analysis

Three independent methods: paleomagnetic investigation, analysis of reflection seismic sections and structural study of outcrops have been applied to MesozoicTertiary rocks of the Mecsek and Villány Mts (SW Hungary), which form inselbergs in the southern part of the Pannonian Basin. The structural history is marked by Late OligoceneEarly Miocene NW-SE shortening (in present cooridinates); late ...

Late Pleistocene glacial advances in the western Tibet interior

Resolving this question requires additional glacial chronologies from unique spatial and climatic regimes as well as an...

A Holocene–Late Pleistocene geomagnetic inclination record from Grandfather Lake, SW Alaska

S U M M A R Y Our study of lake sediments from Grandfather Lake in SW Alaska (N59.8181◦, W158.5597◦) yields the first geomagnetic inclination record for Alaska that spans the entire Holocene. The record is based on three overlapping sets of piston cores and is well dated by seven AMS radiocarbon dates. Its magnetic component consists of PSD (5–15μm) magnetite that occurs in concentrations rangi...

Modeling Human Ecodynamics and Biocultural Interactions in the Late Pleistocene of Western Eurasia

Given the complex and multidimensional nature of human evolution, we need to develop theoretical and methodological frameworks to account for and model the dynamic feedbacks between co-operational biological and cultural evolutionary systems to better understand the processes that produced modern human behavior. Equally important is the generation of explicit theory-based models that can be tes...

Late Pleistocene and early Holocene rivers and wetlands in the Bonneville basin of western North America

Field investigations at Dugway Proving Ground in western Utah have produced new data on the chronology and human occupation of late Pleistocene and early Holocene lakes, rivers, and wetlands in the Lake Bonneville basin. We have classified paleo-river channels of these ages as “gravel channels” and “sand channels.” Gravel channels are straight to curved, digitate, and have abrupt bulbous ends. ...
